ALL THAT ZAZZ

Global Nail Superstitions (Part 2)

Ciao bella,

Hope you enjoyed these countries and their beliefs from a few weeks ago. There are so many different cultures in the cosmetology industry, here are a few more genuinely told to Nails Magazine. They all work in salons so you can say “straight from the horses mouth.”

Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines certainly had no night services! No clipping the nails at night. This belief must have originated when there was no electricity and night time clipping meant there was more of a chance of cutting oneself.

According to JewishEncyclopedia.com there is a saying about nails “he who burns them is a pious one, he who buries them is a righteous one and he who throws them away is a wicked one.”

In Korea during the Joseon Dynasty, people were not to throw away their nail clippings but keep them wrapped in cotton or silk cloths in order to respect their forefathers.

In Kuwait nail clippings are wrapped in a piece of paper and kept in a safe place because it is believed that someone may do bad things to them through their nails.

In South Africa, many children are also taught never to leave clippings lying about but are to collect them and make sure to dispose of them.

Want to stop biting your nails? Here are some wake-up calls to stop. In Greece, it is believed that if you bite your nails, you will argue with someone.

In Russia, it is believed a nail biter will be unhappy all his life.

Stay tuned for part 3 of more Global Superstitions coming this season.

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!
